For our exclusive study, 200 executives from companies with an annual revenue of at least 200 million euros and at least 200 employees - across all sectors - revealed the status quo as well as specific plans for activities and investments regarding their SAP S/4HANA transformation. The majority of companies is currently in the implementation phase: More than 90 % have started their transformation. Only 7% have not yet started the transformation at all.
Almost 60 % of the companies who already completed the transformation exceeded the planned schedule. However, the strongest deviations from plan relate to the result quality and the budget (65 % each). Main reasons are the expansion of the project scope during the transformation and a weak project management.
Whereas most service companies choose the “Business Redesign“ approach, manufacturing companies tend to apply “Catch up the Core“, the least onerous approach for higher complexity.
98% of companies have their transformation externally supported.
Professional change management tends to be used too rarely and too late: Only 21 % of companies employ consultancies from this area. 61 % hire IT consultants, 46 % rely on strategy and process consulting.
More than two-thirds of the companies surveyed take a business-specific approach, preferring the Private Cloud or On-Premise - with one in two companies opting for the Private Cloud and another 20 % choosing an On-Premise solution. As many as 30 % follow SAP's recommendation and choose the Public Cloud as their hosting option.
