Sustainability is a major challenge for the defense industry. While international crises lead to an increase in the need for military capability and thus rearmament, sustainability supposedly contradicts. On the other hand: operations logistics in particular benefit from sustainable and regenerative approaches. Realizing the synergies requires a change in mindset for military procurement, industry, and users.  

But in which areas is change necessary? Which technologies contribute to a sustainable transformation while at the same time enable alternative supply concepts with expanded capabilities? Which factors are relevant in procurement to promote sustainability? How can procurement and government invigorate to mobilize the industry? What is the status of the sustainable transformation of the defense industry in the USA, France, UK, and Germany? 

The study answers these questions from the perspective of industry, public procurement and the military user.
